Bitcoin halves its block reward once every four years. Kaspa does it gradually: the block reward reduction happens every month, with each step sized so the reward halves over a year. It's sometimes called the chromatic phase, because the steps follow the twelve notes of a musical scale.
How the schedule works
Each month the reward is multiplied by the twelfth root of one half, roughly 0.944. That's a cut of about 5.6% per month. Twelve of those steps in a row multiply out to exactly half, so the reward halves every year without one sudden drop.
What changes on reduction day
- Miners receive less KAS per block, so daily emission falls.
- Miners' income in KAS drops overnight, which can affect hashrate if the price doesn't compensate.
- Nothing changes for holders' balances or for sending transactions.
Live countdown in KaspaDash
- Open KaspaDash and go to Market.
- Next reward reduction counts down in days, hours, minutes and seconds to the next step, with the exact date and time.
- It shows the reward now and the next reward, with the percentage drop.

When Kaspa moved to 10 blocks per second, the reward per block was divided to match. Ten times as many blocks each pay a tenth as much, so emission per second didn't change. That's why the per-block reward looks small next to older figures you might see online.
